I have loved acting my whole life, but it wasn’t until my mother wrote and self-published “Poems for the Heart With Steps to Grow By” that I knew I could achieve my dream of being a star. I guess you can say I’ve always been a performer. As a child, I wrote and performed in plays for my school’s drama club. I always felt at home on stage. I continued to write and perform in school and community plays as a teenager and eventually got into modeling and film. By the time I graduated from high school, I had walked the runway at the Bronner Brothers Hair Show, modeled for Snow and Co. boutique in Atlanta, worked as an extra in a movie, and had appeared in a Zatarain’s Food Company commercial. Things changed once I went to college. My focus shifted, and I indulged fully in campus life. I was on the debate team, freshman class queen, cheerleading captain, in a sorority, and did absolutely nothing related to acting. It just didn’t seem like entertainment was an actual career choice, so I focused on something more practical. Things you’re passionate about never completely fade away, though. For a span of about two years, I went on several study abroad trips. The different colors and cultures in those countries awakened my then dormant creativity and reminded me of my purpose—acting.

I was scared, though, not of failing but of being so great that my life would change drastically and quickly. I went on to graduate from Texas Southern University with degrees in Finance in Spanish. Still not willing to submit to my passion, I moved to Atlanta to pursue a Master’s degree in Spanish. It only took one semester for me to realize that I no longer wanted to be a graduate student or Graduate Teaching Assistant which actually meant I was teaching the Spanish course. I moved back home, back to New Orleans, where I could reconnect with my artistic beginnings. I started attended acting classes, got an agent, and gradually began to make headway as an actor. I’m finally living my dream, and it feels so good.
