Kent Leckie, a Creative Fitness Photographer, who has been getting a lot of questions from both Amateur and Pro Level athletes that I feel are important you…
“Wither you are an amateur or a pro; we need pictures to showcase our best look at any given time”, said Kent. His pictures not only tell a story of the past, but also the present. They showcase you at your very best at that given time and put a kick into your career so that people and companies can see you at your very best. All of these success stories have started with the knowledge that their portfolios needed more than just a photo that documents a time and place that you can hang on a wall and evokes smiles in its onlookers. This is where he steps in. This business is about networking and showcasing to the right people at the right times what you have to offer as an Athlete and as a person, remember companies, magazines and people are always watching! If you’re not current, your yesterday’s news…now that could be good news but it won’t be the best news!
Pictures Paint a path to success. We are constantly in times of change ever improving, so the Athlete that keeps current and adapts to change is the athlete that comes out on top! As a photographer my focus is to improve what he does consistently, to bring out the very best in the athlete or models he shoots, in creative and unique ways. We all have something unique to offer so he capitalizes on this by showcasing your best looks ever, in creative unique ways. In this business the ability to adapt to change, and to be able to showcase your uniqueness in different ways, puts you on top from the other athletes and models. Another point I would like to touch on has to do with what he can do for you. Don’t rely on people to get you something, go get it yourself. If you have something in this industry, then someone will see that, but if you’re not visible they won’t even know you exist. Pictures are like a resume to a job or an opportunity, if you have current job updates you put that down on your resume, likewise the same should go for pictures, if you have a better look then get some pictures and update your portfolio.
As a photographer we develop relationships in the industry, we meet people and sometimes see opportunities. If your look and personality is a fit for something that may be coming up, you can be rest assured I will be saying something to you. What I can promise you, is the very best of what I can do, and that’s getting your best look on camera then into the Public!
Last but not least, what types of photos should I do? This is a great question. I would like to answer this by saying provide people with unique, creative looks that showcase different sides of you. Getting typical shots in standard positions are good, and in some cases necessary, yet showing your uniqueness and versatility is I believe putting the best look of what you have to offer out there for everyone to see! With Models, you witness sex appeal mixed with a hint of Intensity. With Athletes, I look for a bit more hard core and badass looks, I guess you could say. It is about relating my inner self with the inner self of the person I am photographing to creatively inject athleticism, Intensity or any other Emotion we are looking to evoke through real feelings.
In closing to this article, I can say I have spent countless hours living the lifestyle as a competitive bodybuilder and strongman competitor. From there I have dedicated significant time to studying angles, lighting, and experimenting so that when the model walks onset I know as much about them as possible. From the time we start the shoot it is all about getting that shot, I will do just about anything to get that shot that angle or that intense look be it me looking like a bobble head standing in the waves in the ocean or climbing a ladder to get the perfect angle, or scaling a rock face to hit that one of a kind shot.
Your photo shoot should be a stepping stone in elevating you to be more than what you once thought possible! All the Best in life and in Competition with yourself and others! J
